Masters of Photography - Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre

Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre was one of the first photographers and arguably the first portrait photographer.  Working around the Paris area in the early 19th century, Daguerre was extremely influential in the development of the field of photography.  His greatest contribution was the daguerreotype, a method for chemically developing photographs with a shorter exposure time.  Thus, in addition to being a master photographer and painter, some consider Daguerre to be a great chemist as well.
Daguerre took colorless pictures of people, including himself, mainly wealthy.  Due to the long exposure times needed, his subjects are never smiling and are depicted in simple poses that they can keep for long periods of time.  His photographs are also generally affiliated with being old and grainy, due to the time period in which they were taken.
Daguerre is a truly inspiring photographer, as he was one of the first major photographers and helped influence the field of photography into what it is today.  Once we researched him further, our respect for him greatened because we began to appreciate the patience required to be a photographer back in his day.

Photo Assignment III - Rule of Depth

I used the rule of depth for this photo, which involves making parts of a photo out of a focus to center viewers' attention on specific aspects.

My three rules were:
1. Rule of Thirds
2. Rule of Viewpoint
3. Rule of Depth

Photo Assignment II - Rule of Viewpoint

I used the rule of viewpoint to take this photo, which suggests using different viewpoints to give a unique perspective to the photo.

Photo Assignment I - The Rule of Thirds

I used the Rule of Thirds, which states that the main object in your photo should not be centered in the center of your photo, but rather on one of the two dividing lines that divide the photo into thirds.
